The Hare's Corner

The Hare’s Corner is an innovative biodiversity initiative by the Burrenbeo Trust to help landowners make more space for nature through creation of habitats such as Mini-Woodlands, Heritage Orchards, Wildlife Ponds, Wildlife Hedges and through provision of bespoke ‘Plans for Nature’.

The initiative is inspired by the term “The Hare’s Corner”, an old farming expression for an awkward section of a field which wasn’t intensively farmed and so was “left to nature”. By offering landowners practical, hassle-free, support to enhance biodiversity on their land, this initiative has already delivered hundreds of new spaces for nature in the form of native mini-woodlands, wildlife ponds, heritage orchards and wildlife hedges. This initiative was launched in 2021 in Co. Clare and due to its proven success and demand, has expanded to several other counties, and is growing year on year. FERS Ltd. ecologists have been involved with the initiative since 2024, working with over 35 landowners (private individuals, community groups, schools and farmers) in counties Carlow and Meath.
